The world’s most anticipated sailing event after the Olympic Games, the Allianz Sailing World Championships, is underway, and Aruba is making its mark on the international sailing scene with three athletes competing across different classes. This prestigious event, held every four years, has gathered a massive fleet of 1,200 participants and 900 boats across 10 diverse sailing classes.

Aruba’s sailing team is prominently represented by Malik Hoveling and Ethan Westera in the IQ foil class, as well as Just van Aanholt in the ILCA 7 class with the coaches coaches Yuri Hummel and Sam Vandormael and Aldrick Maduro.

In the IQ foil class, where only 100 male participants qualified, Hoveling and Westera have demonstrated their skills and earned their rightful place among the elite competitors. Their journey to the Allianz Sailing World Championships has been one of many many hours of training on the water, in the gym and lots of kilometers bicycling.

Meanwhile, Just van Aanholt has secured his spot in the ILCA 7 class, Van Aanholt’s participation underscores his commitment to representing Aruba at the highest level of international sailing. In June he won a silver medal at the CAC games for Aruba and he is ready for the next one.

As the event where the first tickets for the Paris 2024 Olympics will be allocated, the competition reaches a new level of intensity. The first eleven countries , so not athletes directly but the countries across the various classes, will earn direct tickets to Paris 2024, highlighting the global importance of this remarkable event.
