Finally. After 26 weeks and 1002km of training, I finished my first Marathon!
This season of training I decided to put calisthenics, gym and breakdancing on the side and looked for a challenge in the running world.
🎯Goal
My main goal/priority was to finish it. My sub-goal would be to finish under 4 hours.
🏃🏻‍♂️How did the Marathon go?
The first 28KM I felt very strong, everything under control, breathing, effort level. My goal pace was under the 5.41 min/km to finish under the 4 hours, which was on target.
🦵🏼However, during 29KM my calves, quads, hip flexors everything started cramping😂 and the further I went, the worse it got. I had to fully stop a few times because of the pain. Between 29KM till 42KM (end) my cramps never went away so I was pushing myself by just running slower/walking and stopping until it fully cramped. I took salt tabs, electrolytes, bananas you name it but it wouldn’t go away. In my mind kept thinking “one step at a time”. All I had to do was finish it, which eventually I did.
🙌🏼I’m grateful and proud of myself for this experience. I know I put the work in as much as I could, did my best and only focused on what I can control.

💪🏾I encourage everybody to run, even though most people don’t like it (I was the same) but when you start running and get into it, it’s nice. You just need a pair of running shoes and you can do it from anywhere. You get to go outside, enjoy the nature, and ofcourse the health benefits both physical and mental is worth it. And who knows, maybe you sign up for your next 5, 10, half or full marathon for a challenge! (i recommend)
👀This won’t be my last marathon and the next time I do go for one, I’ll be looking for the sub 4 hour. But for now, I have a different fitness goal.
🙏🏻Thank you all for the support!
Special thanks to my running coach @gertjanwassink1985 for guiding me throughout this period. I wouldn’t have improved this much in 6 months without your work!

Congrats Edric Magalona
